Backpacking for beginners and what you shouldn't carry around (learn from me)

Heh, remember when I said I'd try to make at least two posts a month? Yeah, I failed. ʕ ´•̥̥̥ ᴥ•̥̥̥`ʔ

But some failures are good! (seriously), a good part of the end of last year I was extremely busy with the end of college, so I could only make the zines, to give you an idea I was until now to make a post about interfaces and one about the end of my sketchbook.... both I couldn't do, but look on the bright side! Now I'm literally a card-carrying gamer! (even hating those gamers that we all know.....ah the duality of life)

For my non-English speaking colleagues, this is my free pass out of college

Well then, finally graduated, what made me stay these times without posting again? Besides me running to finish all the work that I didn't finish because of college me and my partner decided to leave the rent and do a BACKPACKING TRIP. Yes, that's what I want to talk about today with you here.

First, this is an old desire, and second, I was already pretty sick of rent and living in a place that isn't mine, so why not live a good time in places that aren't mine with the chance of maybe, who knows, finding a place of mine that I like? As me and my partner @gifavetta gi work online we were already thinking about doing this for a long time, and it was this moment or we probably would never do it again...especially because our house was already filling up with junk, so let's go in parts.

Step 1: planning

Here I won't talk much about it because @gifavetta already talked about this on her blog, we have a treaty between us that is very simple, he with all the anxiety he has plans everything, and I solve all the problems on the spot and put things to work. Simple, an RPG group should be completed like this.

Step 2: assembling the travel backpack

This was chaos, how can two people who live like crows collecting things they find around reduce their whole life in a bag of less than 10 to 16kg? The answer is no they can't, but we tried hard, and this was my result:

A backpack to carry everything: Like the promotion rat that my partner is, she got two excellent travel backpacks for us for a bargain, one of 50L and 70L (because of course I was going to end up carrying more things....from her), besides of course, a smaller backpack, since this mega backpack is just for us to leave things in the house that we will stay momentarily.

Drawing stuff: This is pretty basic stuff, I made a travel notebook for both of us, I sewed the leather pieces, I bound the sheets and they were pretty cool, I divided this big notebook into 3 parts. One for sketches, one for watercolor (which I'm learning) and one for collage of things that I find around. Besides of course some pencils and some watercolors.

Kitchen stuff: Look, I LIKE to cook, this is part of my being already, so I needed to take some things like foldable pots and my mini pet pan and my kitchen knife that's there in the carpentry stuff (you have no idea how many places out there are not prepared to cook and I'm not going to live on noodles much less pay dearly for every meal of my day, I'm poor, I don't have money for that.

Camera and binoculars: I love taking pictures of things and this camera was the most compact and the best we've ever found to take pictures of insects and birds....the binoculars ended up running away when I was taking things not so necessary to avoid weight, sad.

Sewing stuff: there's another thing I really like to do, sewing, but it's quite impossible to carry fabrics and a sewing machine on the trip so I'm just taking the basics in case any clothes tear and I can make the repairs, and maybe some clothes for Giovanna's Sylvanian.

Carpentry stuff: you may be wondering: why???

And I answer: why not????

Carpentry and carving was something I kind of got into recently, and I have a personal project to get a piece (which I find fallen of course) of each tree that has to do with the state I'm in, thus making a xylotheque of this backpacking trip....besides of course already training to do something of life that doesn't involve 100% digital things, because one of our goals is to do some volunteering along the way and I really want to learn these things with some old people hidden at the end of the world. So this is my kit of gouges, carving knives and saw, believe it or not all this is quite light.

And phew, that's it, of course there's the notebook (or laptop, i still dont knowk the diference in english) that's basic for me to work and survive, clothes, things to clean myself and RPG dice (because you never know when an RPG table can happen) but they are minimal things and not as important as the other things I talked about here is it?

Step 3: the move!

And it was at this moment, that all my years working as a truck driver's helper paid off, it was almost a week of organizing and boxing things, because we had been living for some years in a rented house, so we had quite a few things even though 70% were books and electronics, and buddy, to organize all this and store it in the best way possible was not easy (to help I caught a flu and torticollis the day before the move) done this we managed to take everything to my father's truck and make a move that left the coast and half was in the north zone of São Paulo and the other half in the east zone (for those who don’t know those places....they are very far apart), I'm tired of this move until today, even because I spent the next two days packing things in my parents' house.

And that was it! Now that I'm writing this we've already started the backpacking trip and we're in Santa Catarina and from here we'll be going to the other states of this big Brazil. We also printed several of our stickers to put around, maybe you'll pass by one of mine somewhere!

Man, I'm tired, keep an eye out and subscribe to @gifavetta Newsletter because she'll probably end up making a zine of each state we're in to try to spread around the cool things we're finding.

That's it for today, I swear I'll try to get back to making at least two posts a month now that I'm more organized, stay well, see the world, and stay hydrated! ʕ •ᴥ•ʔ/ (by the way, the next Tec Tec is already being produced!)
